INTERNATIONAL LIBRARY OF FASHION RESEARCH SATELLITE EXHIBITION

To mark the official opening of the International Library of Fashion Research in Oslo, Steen & Strøm is hosting a satellite exhibition and reading room in the physical retail space open to the public. “Independent Publishing: Independent Fashion” compiles a selection of contemporary Norwegian fashion magazines from the last two decades, selected from International Library of Fashion Research’s permanent collection.

The parallel between the independent magazines and the independent fashion designers is as evident as ever. With the rise and fall of fashion publishing, fashion designers lost valuable platforms for communicating and mediating their work. The magazines have been home to some of the most seminal and sophisticated fashion expressions, both in Norway and beyond. By understanding this past, we can actively contribute to a desirable future.

On Wednesday 30th of November at 4PM we are hosting a panel discussion with Morteza Vaseghi, Siv Støldal and Geir Haraldseth. We are certain that it will be interesting and hope as many of you will be able to attend.

Siv Støldal is a Bergen-based designer working in the crossover between fine art and fashion, investigating codes of clothing, often through wardrobe studies and interviews. The main points of interest are the relations between people and clothing when clothing becomes a tool for defining identity, and marking occasions, moods, and aspirations. Siv Støldal’s work has been shown at London-, Paris- and Oslo fashion week and at art institutions in Norway and abroad. Siv Støldal has won several design awards and has been nominated for best menswear Designer by London Fashion Institute. Støldals work has been featured in books such as Fashion (Taschen), Fashion Now (Taschen), Modern Menswear (Laurence King Publishing), and Fashion Central Saint Martins (Thames & Hudson). She has produced three short films for Showstudio.com. Her work is collected by Nasjonalmuseet for Kunst, Arkitektur og Design, and Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum. She is a co-founder of KioskenStudio and Bioregion Institute and was one of the founding members of HAiKW/.
Morteza Vaseghi is a creative director & designer. In 2021, he debuted his first capsule collection for Colmar A.G.E. Previous editorial projects include Recens Paper and Wallet. He’s also serving as Design Director for International Library of Fashion Research.
Geir Haraldseth is a curator of contemporary art at the National Museum in Norway. He recently co-curated a survey show of the art scene in Norway, which was the inaugural exhibition for the new National Museum building in Norway.
