Describe your brand:
Shitika Studios is an artistic studio brand that not only handcrafts unique jewellery pieces, but also creates sculptural artworks for the body such as eyewear, face masks and body armour. The studio admires to combine masculine and feminine characteristics into the jewellery. With over 8 years of experience in the field, Shitika introduces her expertise of traditional jewellery making techniques into creating more modern and bold pieces. The brand has a more futuristic vision and a dark/mysterious aesthetic, making it intriguing for all. It envisions a space for all to be adorned by its jewellery -regardless of gender, by implementing tough, fluid and detailed designs.
Where do you get your inspiration?
Inspiration comes from everywhere and anywhere. A lot of the jewellery pieces are inspired by futuristic concepts and industrial design. By looking at their streamlines shapes and linear forms, the pieces embody static motion at the same time being functional. Much inspiration also comes from nature and its balance of rough and delicate properties. Textures could be replicated from rocks, or the intricate anatomy of an orchid could be moulded around parts of the body. The sources are endless, and the best thing about it is, the inspiration can show itself at anytime.
Any advice for those who dream of creating their own brand?
If you’re waiting to be ‘ready’ then don’t. There isn’t really a ‘perfect’ time to start and you will always have challenges and hurdles, so don’t let the unknown stop you and just go for it. Also what I have found very insightful is having a mentor or coach giving me guidance and perspective. It can be very easy to absorb yourself into all your projects, which is a great, however sometimes you need someone of expertise to help you balance all these tasks. In addition, to see things from a new perspective.
What does Norwegian design mean for you?
Norwegian design has always been presented to me as minimal, simplistic and timeless. After moving to Norway I see there are so many designers and artists that have a unique vision, and that really brings more character and expression to Norwegian Design.
Where do you think the Norwegian fashion industry will be in 5 years?
In 5 years I hope to see the Norwegian fashion industry more known to all these unique and bold designers and artists. Showing the world that this part of Scandinavia is blooming with talent and its on its way to become one of the most talked about within the industry.
